Repairing the Firefly - Defeat

Sandy never showed, so I started the car up and drove it the few blocks to our mechanic. Slowly. With the hazard lights flashing. I arrived without incident, and he promised to look it over and call before bothering with the brakes. Here's what he found:

As you can see, it wasn't even worth the effort of doing an estimate. I wrote the car off for salvage then and there. A few days later he removed my alternator, belt, and battery to give back to me, and that was the last I saw of that car. I'm now scheming uses for the alternator, and the battery is currently blinking some LEDs in the basement. I'll probably try to exchange it for a marine battery and soup up my UPS, which really needs new batteries.
